STM32 series cost-effective entry-level products are now in mass production and shipped, enjoying a 10-year product life guarantee

STM32 MCUs are already used in billions of smart industrial, medical and consumer products around the world. STM32 currently has thousands of product models, allowing product designers to always choose products with moderate prices, satisfactory functions and performance.

While ensuring availability, STMicroelectronics is targeting the new STM32C0 series at home appliances, industrial pumps, fans, smoke detectors and other products that typically use simpler 8-bit and 16-bit MCUs. The STM32C0 new generation 32-bit design improves product performance and features, such as faster response time, additional features and network connectivity, while keeping the total cost and power consumption similar. At the same time, the simplicity of entry-level products, combined with a strong free support ecosystem, rich resources such as tools and software packages, and communication opportunities with various developer communities, lowers the threshold for new users to enter the 32-bit world.

Daniel Colonna, Director of STM32 Marketing at STMicroelectronics, said: "MCUs for next-generation smart appliances and industrial control equipment must meet the characteristics of ease of use, competitive price, and guaranteed supply. Our new product STM32C0 general-purpose entry-level MCUs fully addressing these needs, with the added benefit of the strong STM32 ecosystem, introduce an exciting new option for 8-bit/16-bit applications."

The STM32C0 series is now mass-produced and available, and enjoys the 10-year life guarantee of industrial products updated annually by STMicroelectronics. There are nine types of packages, providing various options according to different needs, such as easy to pick and place, small and thin.

Technical Supplementary Information

The new STM32C0 series from STMicroelectronics lets designers do more with less: The new MCUs come in a small and economical package with only a pair of external power pins, freeing up more I/O pins for the application, while Reduce bill of materials costs. Additionally, an on-board high-accuracy (1%) clock saves external clock components.

As a member of the STM32 product family, STM32C0 devices can be easily migrated to the STM32G0 series for developing more demanding projects, sharing the same pinout.

The STM32C0 series integrates the latest peripherals, including a 1.7 MSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with 16-bit oversampling hardware, and multiple timers, including advanced control timers for applications such as motor control.

The new MCUs are based on the STM32 platform and offer DMA (Direct Memory Access) channels to improve the performance and energy efficiency of applications. The main frequency is as high as 48MHz, the instruction throughput is 44 DMIPS, the CoreMark performance/energy efficiency test scored 114 points, and the power consumption in the running mode is only 80µA/MHz.

The STM32C0 series allows designers to use the respected STM32 development ecosystem. There is currently one STM32C0 Nucleo (NUCLEO-C031C6) low-cost development board and two STM32C0 Discovery kits (STM32C0116-DK and STM32C0316-DK). Software resources include the STM32CubeMX configuration tool, Microsoft Azure RTOS, and the STM32CubeC0 package with hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and low-level libraries.
